Monthly update, April 2018

April 29, 2018personal journal3 min read

It was an interesting month. It passed by quickly though, like other months too. I get the feeling that the time is accelerating. Or maybe its because we live busy lives, not always focus on what’s essential for us.

Training

I’m writing this on Sunday, so the last day of the month is tomorrow, but don’t plan to do any training. Let’s have a look at the stats.

April was the best month in 2018 so far. I’ve made some good progress in the volume over March and ended up with 12 hours of training and 96 kilometers.

I don’t like it that again I’ve got one week of setback, mostly because I was on short business/personal trip to Germany and Poland. Nevertheless, I’m still quite happy with the achievements.

Parkrun at Gunnersbury Park

On the last Saturday, I joined Parkrun at the Gunnersbury Park. As usual, there were quite a lot of people (400+), even though this time the weather was unpleasant (comparing to the most days of this month, when it was warm and sunny).

I’ve finished the 5k run with the time 26:30, with the following results:

Congratulations on completing your 11th parkrun and your 5th at Gunnersbury parkrun today. You finished in 221st place and were the 181st male out of a field of 463 parkrunners and you came 20th in your age category SM30-34. […] Your PB at Gunnersbury parkrun remains 00:24:55. Your best time this year remains 00:25:50.

New shoes

I’ve bought a new pair of shoes! Since some time I’ve been running only on one pair of New Balance Techride M460. They are ok but rather dedicated to flat surfaces. Since I wanted to run a bit more also offroad / trails, I decided I need another pair, and I’ve got myself ASICS Gel Venture 6!

This is how they look.

Photos of 2018 London Marathon

Like last year, I went for long walk along the route of London Marathon and took some photos from the race. It was enjoying and inspiring time, make sure you read my full story.

Signing up for the marathon

Watching the event from the side made me feel jealous a bit. The atmosphere was great, with crowds cheering the runners, looking at the runners I realized that I need to feel this rush again. I also needed some motivation for my training.

So last week, after couple hours of research I’ve found a race in October - the München Marathon, and I’ve signed for it.

Looking forward to May with hope

Next month is promising. I plan regular workout runs to build some better base before I start my full marathon training plan in the middle of June. I’m also considering getting some kettlebells to supplement my training with some extra core exercises!

Until the next time!
